How did I miss this one?

The song to the first zone of Sonic 2. I don't know how I missed this beauty, but I'm glad I came across it. This is a really good reproduction of the song. Everything is on point, they really should have used a piano back then to enhance their song. Too bad for them, and you get to be the one credited for it.

DrMackFoxx responds:

You really think so? Thank you very much! :) Granted, the sound system on the Sega Genesis was rather primitive, especially compared to its competitor, the SNES. Although the Sega CD did greatly expand the Genesis' MIDI instrument library considerably, the add-on was very expensive and, by far, most people with a Genesis never bought one.

At any rate, thank you so much for yet another thorough and excellent review! They are always greatly appreciated. :) I'll have to cook up some more new tunes before long.

Unsure and Unsure, same name, completely different

When I first read your review I thought you were comparing two of my songs that had similar names, but I went back and reread it today, and realized that you meant your song and not mine, to which I misread and responded back to your review, probably in the dumbest manner I ever have. that being said, I apologize for that stupidity on my part, but I really like this loop. It almost sounds like a character select screen for like an RPG. Good Job.

lol, it's all good in the hood
and thanks homes

Man, you know what this makes me think of?

There are two intro stages from the old SNES games that this song would definitely have fit, the intro stages from Megaman X2 and X3. You remember those stages right? Now I dare you to play those games and have this song playing on those stages. It matches more the X2 stage than X3, but it could work. I think a better for it to fit on X3 would have been the water stage with Toxic Seahorse. The stage music is kinda similar to this, thus my thought on it fitting with the stage. Have you noticed my profile pic though? It's not quite Zero, but hey, he looks like him. They need to make a freaking two player Megaman X game and this should be the song for the intro stage. And they should include my character, so Axl isn't the only young one.

DrMackFoxx responds:

Ah, yes! Megaman X2 and X3 were great games and they had a lot of excellent tunes, too! It's pretty hard to make something that measures up to classic songs like those, but good to know I'm on the right track. :) Thank you very, very much for another excellent and thorough review. I greatly appreciate it!

Awesome Job.

This tune is pretty much dead on with your description. I kinda think of a really hi tech Castlevania type setting. I know a futuristic Castlevania has been done, but not with a really strong technological base, and this song would be perfect for that. The bass and piano to battle a bit, but not enough to weaken the quality of the song.

DrMackFoxx responds:

Cool! I'm planning on doing a few more tracks based on this song, such as an enemy battle theme and victory fanfare, boss battle and a darker theme for being deep in the high-tech ruins. We'll see what happens.

Thank you very much for another great and thorough review! They are always greatly appreciated. :)

This song takes me back.

See, this brings me back to when I was like, 6 and I actually played all the way through it and got to the end, I got there with 15 lives, and lost damn near all of them, until I finally figured out the freaking pattern and beat the game. Man, the memories from that night were hilarious, I had my family sitting behind me watching the whole thing and they were cheering for me, it just makes me laugh that that is the first thing I thought about when I heard this version, but I've heard the other one so many times I don't even know why it didn't happen until now. I guess for a 6 year old back then, Sonic was an accomplishment. Keep it up man, you're bringing back good memories with these tunes.

DrMackFoxx responds:

To be honest, I cheated in order to get to the final boss of Sonic the Hedgehog. ^_^; Good old Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, Start for the level select. Nonetheless, that last fight was rather challenging.

At any rate, thank you very much for yet another excellent review and I'm very happy that you enjoyed this song! :)

This is were I agree....

Yeah, the piano wasn't the best fit, but hey, the basic integrity of the song is still intact, and it sounds good. Not very many others would have taken the chance and stepped up to the challenge, so yeah, you gets a 10 from me, and a 5 on the vote.

DrMackFoxx responds:

Agreed. I was not very sure a piano arrangement would work out so well with this particular song. Still, good to see that people still like it. Thanks a lot for the honest, thorough review and I'm glad you still enjoyed this track. It is greatly appreciated. :)

Pretty Damn Good.

I'm glad that there is someone who is dedicated to redoing these Sonic songs, because they are classics, and you rock them dude. I swear, this would play great with the game.

DrMackFoxx responds:

That's great news for me! I was rather uncertain that this track would be received so well thus far. Thank you very much for another excellent review and don't worry, there will be more tracks in the near future. :)

See, I disagree, politely.....

The guy below me is kind of saying it doesn't really maintain the same feel as the original, which to me is untrue. For one, the song wasn't supposed to be other worldly. If you played through the First Sonic, the game pretty much transitions from day to night, which the song was meant to reflect the moment of the day, and in the Starlight Zone, it was night, not that they were in outer space, it was just night time. Even if the manual says different, we know translations back then were botched a lot. And the slight change he added I think should be welcomed, it doesn't actually hurt the song, just gives it a little something extra. Not saying you don't have your reasons for how you feel about this one, because you still gave it a decent score. Either way, keep up the good work Foxx.

DrMackFoxx responds:

Well, I did want to try and put a slight spin of my own on this track with the piano arrangement. I shall endeavor to make more great tunes: I can promise that. :)

Thank you very much for such an excellent and very thorough review! I really appreciate it! :)

You struck gold.....

See, this is and always has been, my favorite stage music from Sonic 1. You did a great job recreating the feel of it, and I'm glad you posted this one, man that's an awesome track.

DrMackFoxx responds:

Ah! I did not know that this was your favorite track from Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm certainly quite glad that you enjoyed my rendition of it! Thank you very much for yet another review! It is greatly appreciated. :)

Sonic as Ballroom Music?

As odd as it sounds to say that, it actually does sound like you'd hear it played at some fancy ball with a bunch of nameless rich people. I know it's might not sound like it, but it's a compliment to how well the track has been composed. You piano work is great as usual, and the midi that Mr. Weeks made is awesome with it. This sounds.....dare I say it......better than the original. It actually does, great job, and keep it up, I'm definitely going to keep coming back to your page to see what new tracks you've put up.

DrMackFoxx responds:

You are not the first to say this track would be fitting for a ritzy ballroom. I would have to agree with that. You think it is better than the original, even? Wow! Thank you! :)

Thanks a lot for yet another great review as well!

I'm working on a multitude of different things, but you'll mostly find me on Youtube under the channel name "The Game Idea Guy". I share my video game ideas and thoughts on a regular basis.
